The symbol used for the beatification of Mary MacKillop in 1995 was a tree under the Southern Cross, in the setting of the red soil of the outback. It is appropriate, therefore, for our school emblem to relate strongly to this original symbol, forming the tree canopy from the words 'St Mary MacKillop, Birkdale,' set under the Southern Cross, and deeply rooted in the features of the local community; the sea, the soil and the land.
