Social Action and Justice
Applying social action and justice requires two important dispositions: empathy (the capacity to stand in the shoes of another) and solidarity (the capacity to walk with another). Catholic schools work to build these dispositions in students through programs for service learning, social justice programs and outreach experiences.
At St Mary MacKillop Catholic Primary School we follow the example of Jesus and aim to live out the good news that Jesus proclaimed. We live this in our daily lives through the explicit teaching of Catholic Social Teaching. We believe that learning needs to be relevant and allow an action focus, so opportunities to make connections in planning is promoted. As a school community we live out these messages in practical ways supporting:

- Caritas Lenten Appeal
- Mission Day - (Major School Fundraiser for the year)
- Year 6 Leadership Groups - Communication, Community, Environment, Mission, Reach Out, Spirit.
- St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal & Purchase of Street Swags
- Staff Immersion experience with our sister parish - Our Lady of Graces, Metinaro, East Timor.
- Resource support to fellow BCE schools/ communities in need.
- Working with the elderly at our local nursing home
- Donating to the education of children less fortunate through the St Mary Mackillop Foundation.
- Financial support to our local Catholic Deanery, BABI and Rosies to assist with the running of domestic abuse support programs.
